The Basilica of Guadalupe in Mexico City

The Basilica of Guadalupe in Mexico City is one of the most visited Christian pilgrimage sites in the world. It is closely tied to the story of a 16th-century apparition of the Virgin Mary, known as Our Lady of Guadalupe, which holds great historical and spiritual significance within Christianity, especially in the Americas. The story begins in December of 1531, just a decade after the Spanish conquest of the Aztec Empire. A man named Juan Diego, an indigenous convert to Christianity, reported seeing a vision of a radiant woman on the hill of Tepeyac, near present-day Mexico City.
