The Crown of Thorns

The Crown of Thorns holds a deeply significant place within the Christian tradition. According to the Gospels, it was fashioned by Roman soldiers during the trial and crucifixion of Jesus. Described in Matthew 27:29, Mark 15:17, and John 19:2, the crown was placed on Jesus’ head in mockery of the claim that He was “King of the Jews.” The act was part of a larger display of humiliation and suffering, as soldiers dressed Him in a purple robe, struck Him, and knelt in feigned homage. Yet the crown, intended to ridicule, has since become one of the most enduring symbols of Christ’s Passion.
