The Genealogy of the Tribe of Benjamin

The Tribe of Benjamin, the youngest of the twelve tribes of Israel, occupies a notable place in biblical history. Its origins trace back to Benjamin, the youngest son of Jacob and Rachel. Rachel died giving birth to him, and with her final breath named him Ben-Oni, meaning "son of my sorrow." Jacob renamed him Benjamin, meaning "son of the right hand" (Genesis 35:18), a title that carried connotations of favor and strength.
