The History of Holy Week (4): Holy Wednesday - The Day of Betrayal

Holy Wednesday, sometimes called Spy Wednesday in older Christian traditions, marks one of the most somber and shadowed moments of Holy Week. It is the day when the betrayal of Jesus by Judas Iscariot was set into motion—a turning point that would lead directly to the arrest, trial, and crucifixion of Christ. Unlike the more public events of Palm Sunday, Holy Monday, and Holy Tuesday, the actions of Holy Wednesday unfold more quietly, behind closed doors and in secret agreements. Yet its impact reverberates through the entire Passion narrative.
