The History of Holy Week (2): Holy Monday - Cleansing the Temple and the Call to Renewal

Monday of Holy Week draws attention to one of the most striking moments in the final days of Jesus’ earthly ministry—the cleansing of the Temple. According to the Gospels, Jesus entered the Temple in Jerusalem and drove out the money changers and merchants, overturning tables and denouncing the corruption of sacred space. “My house shall be called a house of prayer,” he declared, quoting Isaiah, “but you have made it a den of robbers” (Matthew 21:13).
