The Holy Stairs

The Holy Stairs, known in Latin as the Scala Sancta, are a revered Christian relic located in Rome, just across from the Basilica of St. John Lateran. According to long-held tradition, these twenty-eight white marble steps are believed to be the very staircase that Jesus ascended in Jerusalem to stand trial before Pontius Pilate. Their significance lies not only in their direct connection to the Passion of Christ, but also in their centuries-long role as a focus of devotion and pilgrimage for Christians from all over the world.
