The Phoenix as a Christian Symbol

In early Christian history, the phoenix emerged as an unexpected yet meaningful symbol, representing resurrection, eternal life, and victory over death. Though the bird itself does not appear in the Bible, its presence in early Christian art and literature reflects how the early Church drew from both Scripture and the surrounding culture to express key aspects of the Christian message. The phoenix, a mythical bird from ancient mythology said to rise anew from its own ashes, became an emblem of Christ’s resurrection and the hope of believers in their own life after death.
